LCCSA is a nationwide club with a constitution and elected committee. However you have to pay R160 a year to belong which somehow is a problem for some. The radio license, which provides access to the ORRA and LCCSA frequencies, alone is worth that. According to their homepage there are currently 7073 members.
As a wannabe Cruiser owner (I own a Jimny) I think their forum is great.

A club is an entity where like minded people get together to enjoy and promote an activity. Whether that be a sports club, chess club, philatelic club or a motoring enthusiasts club. As far as I know all clubs have a constitution to determine how and by whom the club should be run and generally state the aim and purpose of the club.
Lest we forget, the 4x4 Action Group was established to promote the activity of 4x4 driving in its various forms, trails, dune, overlanding etc. The constitution of the club as such does not have any rules in it other than the rules about who can run the club.
It is therefore the committee, elected by the members, who make decisions as to the rules of the club. this election is done in a democratic fashion at an agm. I for one do not view the rules of the 4x4 AG as being onerous or too harsh for the general off road enthusiast to abide by. The 4x4 AG actually only has a very basic code of conduct and the Ten Commandments of off roading.
Under the circumstances I have seen very little reason to get annoyed by anyone’s behavior from a code of conduct point of view.
HOWEVER
I think it needs to be pointed out that the club is here to promote 4x4 driving in ALL its forms. Whether that be trail driving, sand driving, overlanding or any other type of 4x4 activity. Obviously going hand in hand with this is an outdoor lifestyle.
If you only do trails or only overlanding or a mixture of the two, it does not make you better than anyone else nor does it make you inferior to anyone else.
If you do your trail or overlanding or a mixture of the two in a R30 000 modified banger or an off the shelf R2 000 000 G Wagen, it does not make you better than anyone else or inferior to anyone else.
If your are a newbie or an experienced participant it does not make you better than anyone else or inferior to anyone else.
In any organization there will be diversity.
Personally I would like to make an earnest request to all members of our club to join together, drop the ego’s, stop the bullshit, take time-out to think seriously why this club is here and why you are a member.
For me, I am a member because it gives me the opportunity to follow my passion of 4x4 driving in all its forms with like minded people. I am not a member to be better than anyone else, or drive a better car, or have better recovery gear, or drink more than someone else, or be louder than everyone, or for any other reason other than the passion that I want to follow and that is getting out there on dusty roads and tracks and seeing my beautiful country.
Sorry for a long read but a just feel this needed saying.

I could not have put it better Andreas.
The diversity in our club is one of its great strengths.
Jaco is a serious Wheeler.
Kurt prefers lighter wheeling and short camping trips.
Grips is an overlander.
Flipside is into competitions, hard wheeling and camping.
MartinDJ also enjoy a variety of activities.
I'll do anything from the Moegatle terror trail, to a Bridgestone Challenge, through River Trip to a trip like the 10 Passes Tour and even a Skid Pan day...
The Club tries hard to cater for all tastes....

We cannot apply for radio licenses etc. It is only a FB page where like-minded people can join and link up to do trips etc.
It was never created to be a formal club as it becomes another job.
Could this be sarcasm?

Clubs usually fail when it's "leader" (And yes, there always is one - even with a Committee) becomes cliquey and autocratic. This works for a while but eventually the "older" members tire of this, and stop participating. You then get only "new" guys at meets, and they tire of this after a while too, and so it continues until the club gets a reputation, and no one joins anymore.... Or no one goes to meetings anymore...
Clubs members should always be more important to the committee, than the "leader"

I am a member of several clubs and groups. Most of out local clubs/groups stop functioning. We can blame the committee`s, the members or what ever. In person I think what keep a club alive is the variety of activities. You need to wheel on regular occasions or just nice GTG`s. We usually joined on a Friday for a quick braai or a small trail.
Clubs need to be fed all the time to held it up. Sometimes one person or persons with lots of drive makes things happen. I am past the point of worrying who attend or not. We call an outing and even if only two show up just enjoy. There are so many in clubs that are talkers and not doers.
Dammit Just do it.
To everyone who keeps 4x4AG alive and well; the committee, the members or whoever - keep up the good work

Oppies... I am a founder of this club.
What Hedgehog describes is very true, but it will never happen at 4x4AG as long as I'm involved.
We start every committee meeting by asking what we can do for the members and how we can give back to those who participate.
In 2019 we will launch a year of change where the Calendar will be completely different to what it has been in the past...

It was you and Andreas pushing for fresh events at drinks at The Foundry the other night that inspired the idea of a 'Year of Change'...KurtG wrote:Oh, a new 2019 calendar. Sounds intriguing, thanks for letting me know.
PS - this is tongue in cheek, I am always up for change

I never felt welcome at my 1st 4x4 trip, this after my wife and I introduced ourselves to others, only two couples spoke to us.
Never really bothered to go on any 4x4 off road trail again with a "club", but rather drag a family member and his 4x4 along so we don't go on a trail alone.
Sometimes clubs have too much politics and cliques. I know, I belonged to a car club for many years and served in various roles.
Now we just enjoy what we love doing, exploring the country and camping whenever we can. Meeting people at campsites from all over the country makes for a far better and rewarding trip.
