Average of 277km per day.
Imagine doing that in a old Defender!

Just did a calculation of fuel consumption for this trip.

6092km
1168 litres
5,21km/l

Fully loaded with RTT and towing Metalian Trailer.
Consumption ranged from 3,4 to 6,6 km/l depending on terrain and state of road and of course speed travelled.

The Cruizer would have been even heavier on fuel. I took the Patrol. You also got to consider road conditions and towing.

The Patrol still did better than my Prado, back in the days I did a Botswana trip with my FJ and I got 4 - 4,5 km/L.

Ah Renier, you just want to get me into trouble!

In my humble opinion the 4.8 GRX Patrol is a better all round overlanding vehicle than MY cruiser. I say my cruiser because there are so many variants of the cruiser. Mine is the Cygnus which is exactly the same as the original 100 series just with a few extra comforts.

Basically the vehicles are kitted exactly the same. Dual battery system, fridge, drawer system, water tank and pump plus RTT. They both have a lift kit. the Cruiser 50mm and the Patrol 25mm. The Cruiser has 33” tyres while the Patrol has 31” tyres.

Fuel consumption the Patrol wins. Comfort wise they are about even. Where the Patrol wins i think is that it just gives the impression of being much more robust. Like nothing will break it. Sits on the road very nicely and gives a you confidence on gravel. The under carriage components are a lot heavier which I think also provides a lot of extra traction when the going gets tough. There is almost no wheel spin in any situation. It grips like hell and that is with rather worn Geolander tyres. Soon to be replaced.

The Patrol tows the Metalian like it’s not even there. Sometimes the auto box might change a bit too often but it has tiptronic so that is no big deal to override.

I really enjoyed this trip with the Patrol and know I have found my overlander. Unless of course someone feels like buying me a Grenadier.
