The relation between wheel/tyre size and clearance under a diff pumpkin

The following comment on the 4x4AG FB page in reference to the new JL Wrangler refers:
Manny De Freitas
Thank God for those large wheels & tyres - else that diff would be scraping on the tar...

I was at that useless Gearmax place before they imploded.
Collecting a Diff for my KB280 DT.
The KB280DT diff was lying on the floor, the gap between floor & sideshafts was minimal.
Barely enough to put your booted toe under.
My Diff was the size of a Spanspeck (? spelling).

Next to it was a diff out the newly launched KB6 3.0 D-Teq.
It was twice the size.
The side shafts were a bit higher off the ground.

One of my vehicles has a very flat diff - sidehafts are almost level with the base of the diff.

Not all Diffs are Dana44's...

I realize that MalMan - the Gearmax diff that you refer too is based on a Dana by the way and the one in the Jeep that you tried to diss on FB is not extraordinarily large.

The flat diff you mention is obviously not that of Fearful, is it?

Manny that big Isuzu diff is a Gearmax M75 originally developed for the 4.0l v6 Ranger. It is a copy of a Ford 8.8 inch American Ranger diff with crown and pinion copied from a Dana 44. Side shafts are same as on Dana 44 HD.
