Obviously, popularity & sales numbers of the various brands also plays a role. That’s why the Alliance is by far the biggest.

I look at things from a completely different perspective, as I do not and will never again (even if I had enough money to compensate for a small willy) buy new cars. As long as normal wear and tear and service spares are available from Midas and the like and there are Indies around to fix the things I can't (or do not feel like fixing at the time), the number of dealer workshops is of no concern to me and I'll drive vehicles that I like, not what my neighbour/uncle/cousin/brother-in-law/internet buddy/daughter's boyfriend's dad's ex-wife's adopted son tells me is the best.
Lexington used to be the "best" siggie available because 1 000 000 mineworkers HAD to be right (the same reasoning applies to the governing party)

I have often wondered about the above - why are Toy owners always referring to having spares and mechanics available in every hick town throughout Africa, if they supposedly never break down?Oldtimer wrote: ↑Thu Oct 18, 2018 8:35 amThe amount of dealerships is relative to how often a vehicle needs repairs............![]()
I see Toyota has 194 dealerships, must be because a Toyota will need a service in every second town with their 10 000Km service intervals. Ford has less as they only get serviced every 20 000Km's. Land Rover has much less dealerships because of their 34000Km service intervals.........![]()
Ok, ok, just joking...............![]()

I just had a look at 3 popular brands.
Toyota have 35 dealers in the Western Cape, but only 15 of those are around Cape Town. The rest are in farming & one horse towns.
Nissan have about 9 or 10 & Renault have 8. There used to be only 5 but another 3 have popped up. So technically Renault/Nissan are the biggest.

You are right.
There are 74.
I checked Renault's website
Perhaps Renault should point the error out to CAR Magazine.
They claim there are 45.
I suspect CAR last asked back when Renault only had 45.
I have corrected our list...
