A bit off topic:
How did you land up at Prince Albert for a night stopover?
That is quite a way off the N1 beaten track.
Correct Henri, But it's a nice little town....

It is. Spend time there often for a night. And a chance to do the Swartberg pass again.

We drove right past Gariep, but as I said, Roo was in a hurry.
We only filled up in Colesburg, I think he put in 112L
But when he got to my house the tank was close to empty again....

Seems you hit your head harder than I thought.
There is no way your Defender 130 is more capable than a LC79 and it's certainly no match performance wise.....

I travel a very bad stretch of road every day. Tarred road with hundreds of poorly fixed potholes followed by a very bad stretch of corrugated gravel road.
Have travelled it with various vehicles. Were also the road I tested the Ford V6 Raptor on taking it for a test drive.
The vehicles I have travelled it includes too many to mention. Some worth mentioning is a wide variety of bakkies by the likes of Isuzu, Hilux, Nissan Hardbody, Ford Ranger new and old and a GWM 4x4. The rest of the list are the likes of a FJ Cruiser, VW Kombi, 2.8 GD6 Fortuner and Mercedes Sprinter.
I do frequently travel this stretch with both the 76 and 79. Sometime ago Karin mention while we travel this section with her 76 Cruiser that the Cruiser have a softer ride than all the other vehicles she had driven over this road. Yesterday I did this road again with the 79 and immediately notice how well it took this section of road. Way better than anything I have drive there in person. Excluding the Ranger Raptor which were the best by far.

Now the reason for my post. The Urban Legend is out there that a 70 Series Cruiser has the hardest tooth shattering and brain scrambling ride you can find.

The verdict is out.
You will never find me without Stroh or a 4x4 :D

Surely that all depends on the suspension set up, and weight you have on the vehicle.
I heard of someone driving a Raptor on the Hotazel / Askham road, which he said was like a dream, but that was driving on Fox.

That is true the 76 is on its stock suspension. Some of the vehicles I have mentioned were on aftermarket suspensions. We owns a American V8 SFA Ford Ranger shot with a Fox suspension and that is not much a softer ride than any of the Cruisers.

The Hotazel - Askham road I travel like three to four times a year. The Cruisers are the only vehicles I have owned that did not pick up rattles traveling that road. I can tell you long stories from stranded vehicles ruined by that road.
You will never find me without Stroh or a 4x4 :D
