I did a bit of reading up on this SA built ELF Duster & it's team.
What does DNF mean?

It’s what’s called a Rally Raid car, which differs to a Rally Cross or WRC car.Quack wrote:So is it a race car or not?XJ Junkie wrote:That Duster has about as much business on a racetrack as an Amarok has on a 4x4 trail.
I’d wager that the Elf Duster did better on that circuit than a WRC or Rally Cross would do in the Dakar.
But I’ve loads of respects for what each of those purpose built machine can do. Horses for courses

I did get quite close up with a Renault race car this weekend

I would concede that the team is very professional and accommodated us with great compassion!

I don’t follow the series but I think the Renault is relatively new to the series? It’ll take a few seasons to be at the front.
But what’s good above Rally X is that unlike WRC, it can be broadcast live. I think it’s benefitting it’s growing popularity.

It’s quite tricky to understand the logistics to make the live broadcast possible!
It’s only when you see it in action that you fully appreciate what goes into it!
Every race has to start on the second it is scheduled! Tricky when you have to do a recovery or stabilise a driver who has just rolled several times!
Interesting WRX started in the late 60’s in England (no I did not know this either)
The European series gained momentum in the 80’s already!
For those interested in Trivia, in the late 60’s, the UK went through an incredible wet spell which meant they had to stop all horse racing, they had a slot on the tv sport every Saturday which was dedicated to horse racing, of half an hour. To fill this gap they designed the sport as we know it today. Conventional rally was already quite big in the UK and they had cars and drivers available.
