A stock D2 will outperform a D4. A stock Wrangler as well. As will a G-Wagon or Patrol. D4 just isn’t strong enough & has to rely on electronics to make up for its other deficits.

Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep has been talking about a Jeep Wrangler Pic Up for years.
I first heard about it in 2015.

Here is an article from 2016

https://www.teamchrysler.ca/blog/2016/a ... -truck.htm

The fact is they have a pickup called the RAM 1500.
But maybe in 2019 or 2020 they finally launch a vehicle that has been in incubation for half a decade.
Maybe the new owners (Jeep gets passed around between manufacturers like a cheap whore) will be more serious than Fiat, who clearly have no interest in bakkies...

Then I must be a good driver as I have done better in a D4 then any of the vehicles you mentioned and never been stuck or recovered.

If you don't get stuck, you're not trying hard enough

If you’ve never been stuck or recovered then you aren’t exactly looking for the limits. Every vehicle has them.

Jeep made plenty of bakkies, including the very first 4x4 bakkies. The last one being the Comanche which was based on the XJ.

When Chrysler took over AMC they wanted Jeep to focus on 4x4 SUVs & for Dodge to focus on trucks. Dodge did make SUVs but they were very large road bias SUVs (a bit like what Toyota does).

But RAM (Dodge) don’t make any SFA bakkies, which is why they’ve allowed Jeep to do so. It’ll be released just after the JL Wrangler. Mainly because they don’t have enough factories to keep up with the demand for the SUV Wrangler. Initial production runs on the JL will be vast.

If you are a good driver, then you are a good driver. I am still of the believe that driver skill far out weighs vehicle capabilities. A skilled driver will try and find a way out of any sticky situation. ( Alex pretty much said that about the GQ Man)

So my challenge to you is this. And please see it as just that, a challenge and not me trying to be funny.

Find a vehicle on a route that is far less capable than your D4. If you can negotiate it without issues, then you can drive. I do believe your D4 makes your life to easy. You need a challenge :D

Mike. I was also joking with that Junkie. You see. I am a good driver. Am I an experience 4x4er? Dunno. How much off roading makes you experienced? There are many here who have way more experience than me. My D4 definitely made life too easy. I used to do off road challenges in a tricked out Willie's so i know the difference and even my old P38 with muds was not as good as my D4. Over dose however made the comment that the D4 is not capable which I disputed and then gave in and put it down to my abilities. Difference is the Landy does most obstacles slow and steady whilst the rest have to fly through it to make it. Does that make them more experience and their vehicles better? (hold my beer driving) Bottom line is - if you are skilled enough on the vehicle you are driving you should fair well in most situations. Yes Land Rovers have this cranky issue and lack of tire profile which stops it being the perfect off roader but again I personally have never struggled with my D4 even against some modified road legal vehicles. I need to go buy another one sometime and then I can put some of this stupidity to bed.
