These are Loggerhead Turtles... Apparently there are some Green Turtles that like to nest in the same area from time to time, but we haven't seen any.

We're quite lucky here in Brisbane that 6 out of the 7 world's marine turtles are found in Moreton Bay. But mostly we only have the Loggerheads that nest on Bribie Island.

On another note about beach driving. We've had a massive amount of rain this summer (161% of normal so far). So all of the Bribie's lagoons have broken through, which is great for a good tidal flush!

In the three years we've been here, this is the first time most of them have been open for this long. Usually, only one or two open up, and they close again pretty quickly.

But with them being open for a while, it was only a matter of time before someone tried to cross at the wrong moment. A couple of weekends ago, some genius in his Hilux misjudged the depth (hy het nie eers deur die hindernes geloop nie asook nie lae bestek gekies en sy ewenaar slot gesluit nie).

Long story short, the Hilux didn't make it and had to be rescued by a Ford F250. So, looks like it's not just Afrikaners & Brandy who drive Toyotas into the water – Bundaberg & Bogans are just as keen!
