How do petrol V8s fair on open roads? I know around town they would be heavy. But V8 D4's and Nissan Patrols are becoming affordable now. Good travel vehicles?

Bank on 18 to 20 L/100km for a large 4x4 V8, is my guesstimate

Even on the open road V8's are heavy on fuel. But how heavy is heavy? Big engines are heavy on fuel. That's it.

True. The P38 got 11lt per 100 on freeway but 20-30 around town.
