Sani Pass

Does anyone know what is happening with Sani Pass? For years they have been threatening to tar it. I heard the road has tar up to the Lesotho boarder now but still not down the pass?

I was last there 3 years ago when the road was really bad. Then a mate posted pics from late last year and the same section was all tarred. I would love to do the pass again when my kids are old enough to enjoy it.

On the SA side the road to the pass itself is worse than the pass. A few of us did Sani at the end of the Passes Tour last year. After the other passes we had done during that trip Sani was almost a bit of an anti-climax. If it's wet or snowing I believe it could be a tricky drive but when we did it, it was steep but the surface wasn't bad at all. The tar does start again at the top at the border post. I'm sure martin has footage from the drive up as he did it in 2x4.

Pity you didn't do the Mountain Passes trip with us Alex. It was a fantastic adventure and you would have had good fun.
