If one had to licence say 10 handheld VHF radios, what would the procedure be. Is it necessary to licence each radio individually, or is the licence issued to the owner?

It's a User Authorisation License...

As Manny said its the person that holds the licence not the radio. It is the opposite of a firearm license and more like a drivers license. If you personally own 10 radios, strictly speaking you are the only person authorised to use those radios. The only people you would be able to lend the radios to are those who have legal radio license.

Would if be legal if, for example, I was part of a team hosting an event, and we used 10 radios belonging to me to communicate between team members, with me being present at all times?

So kinda defeats the purpose of having more than one radio to give to your mates when on a trail or similar. Anyone want to buy a handheld? :D

Hypothetically, I may have 10x Motorola DP1400 handhelds with 220V chargers. :-)

Erin, if you hypothetically let 9 other responsible people use your spare radios at an event, I feel you will have very little chance of being caught out. If you hypothetically have a non 4x4 / offroad event and use you radios you could upset some narrow minded individual that could then complain to the authorities. Other than that I can't see you having a problem.

Dont know about groups but I think you can lend a (second) radio to fellow party member on the same outing ... but I dont think multiple lend outs.

Strictly speaking. If a person uses a licensed radio without a license, they are committing an offense. Does not matter where the radio comes from.
