Other odd facts and stuff ...

Remember that if you are using the radio eg a hand-held inside your car
without an external antenna,
your range is limited as
hand-held is low power (Watts)
and enclosed in steel ( or Al 🤓)
cage of the car...

It is possible to get attachment to connect an external outside aerial
to a ‘hand- held’ radio and it
will greatly increase range but still much weaker than higher powered fixed unit.

29 MHz radio as well
by then ... case I need speak to the lesser beings out there ... 😲

29MHz radio s are imo outdated
though quite a few folk still retain them ...
but you can use them speak to the lesser less advanced beings out there ... 😲
VHF though is definitely the way to go

For VHF and 29MHz etc
a proper aerial setup
is even more impt
than phone brand etc
Aerials have to be specifically approp
to VHF or 29MHz.
I helps to have the aerials mounted to achieve height and ensure :
... well soldered/crimped connections enclosed in proper fittings
.... also lay the connecting coaxial cable
so that its not kinked or broken etc ...
(broken cable may short and cost you the radio itself)
... use rubber grommet to protect cable through bodywork access hole
... and rememrber ! you can only
connect and crimp the one end of cable AFTER. passing cable through drill-hole
in shell of car ...

What I have been told is that you may not talk on any handheld radio while driving, like a cell phone. A fixed radio
( perm installed in a vehicle)
is fine to use while driving in the eyes of the law

Turn radio OFF when parking etc ...
... ca flatten battery ...

Some radios can be co-ordinate
located by those who know how
(which I dont !)

etc etc

I will add to and update this
from time to time...
Please correct comment etc as approp🦉
