New shoes for my bus
I'm currently running Goodyear Wranglers on the bus, but have had a spate of punctures. There are probably at least 10 plugs in the 4 tyres, along with 2 mushroom plugs in the sidewalls.
Size is 235/70/16. Is it just me, or are these prone to punctures?
I'm looking for alternatives, but awesome service from Tyres and More in Edenvale is making me consider the same again.
Budget is a big consideration, but I would prefer an AT tyre, although realistically the bus will spend 99% of its time on tar or good gravel.
I've had suggestions for Continental Vancos, General Grabbers and Pirelli Scorpions, but haven't priced these yet. If at all possible I'd like to keep the price below R2K per tyre, which rules out BFGs, Coopers and Hankooks.
I blame SWAMBO as it's easy to cut corners with the bus, and she drives it most of the time.

I've got Goodyear Adventure AT tyres on the Disco. I'm very impressed with the tar and sand road handling in both wet and dry conditions. The bit of 4x4 work and trip's like the mountain passes trip and river trip I've done with them flitted went without any problems. A friend recently got a set fitted to his Isuzu bakkie at Mintys at the bottom of Fishers Hill for around R2000.00 a tyre. I feel they are very good value for money.

The Conti Vanco's are fantastic, I have them on my Ford Panel Van. Although it's only tar riding, I get around 120K on a set, BUT it's going to set you back around 10K for 4 tyres.

Yes it sounds like your wife owes you a few tyres
Secondly, have you checked the load index and speed rating of the tyres you have on compared to what the OEM Standard fitment is? I doubt it’s this, but you never know.
Thirdly, I assume your pressures are maintained properly.

Kurt I think you are very modest in claiming you are not a Guru. I have learned a few things from you regarding load ratings.
Then I am also aware of your procurement experience in overseeing the buy of those Mammoth 200 ton haul truck tyres.

I use 245/75 15" on 3 of my 7 vehicles.
I get about 90000km plus on a set.
Never quite make 100000km though.
We get punctures, but all if them are from nails and screws my damn staff leave lying around after loading or unloading ceilings we've replaced. So our fault.
Excluding my staffs sloppiness (which still results in less flats than Erin gets) we get ZERO punctures.
So Erin must either teach his wife to drive or get a new wife...
Changing brands is not the answer...

Erin, I presume the 235/75/16 s are used on your transporter and you not also recalling
from when you had the 130 where 235/85/16
would be standard.
none the less 75 lot lower side-wall than 85 ...
and skimming a curb on corners would probably often hit the rim let-alone pinch the side wall or tread ...
Agree with Kurt () that the load rating needs be right for the duty call and pressure must also be appropriate.
I like and use Wranglers a lot but I think they dont take kindly to deflation on trails etc esp in old age when they often present multiple small slight punctures after a re-flation from a full
puncture and thats end of life.

I have had excellent results from Firestone Destinations. I have had 3 sets with not a single puncture. Excellent in the wet and quieter than any other A/T. I have also had excellent results off-road.

Load rating on most of the tyres I’ve looked at is 950kgs which I assume is OK.
Speed rating is 180km/h or more which I know is fine.
I’ve been running high tyre pressures (3 bar), just because the PO told me he was advised to.
I ran my previous Defenders at 3 bar plus without any problems, on BFG ATs and MTs.
