10ppm v 50ppm v 500ppm

Yes I know Diesel is the devils work.... but. I am now in possession of a diesel platkar. It is my first diesel vehicle.

I see there has been some fierce arguing about 50ppm vs 10ppm in the past with some interesting allegations flung around but not in this forum (where the real experts hang out :D )

So, should one buy 10ppm instead of 50ppm for the modern diesel engine? Why and what is the advantages? What effects will it have on longevity of various things including mother earth?

For me the biggest advantage of filling both my oil burners up with Sasol 10ppm is the price. The 2 Sasol filling stations near me are by far the cheapest in the Edenvale and Bedfordview area. I can't give definitive answer on which gives better performance but I do tend to see less smoke when using the 10ppm over the 50ppm. My VW platkar is a dog to drive on 500ppm.

You can use either 50 or 10, 50 is usually around 36ppm anyway and modern diesels are designed for low sulphuric diesel

What vehicle?

Older Diesels like the Isuzu KB280DT prefer 500ppm.

If it's a modern Common Rail Diesel use 50ppm.

10ppm is better but not worth the additional cost...

Just to add - it's not easy finding 500ppm is Gauteng these days...

10PPM everytime, the lower sulphur levels pollute the engine oil less, extending the life of the engines internals.

As Paul said, around Edenvale the Sasol 10PPM is the cheapest diesel anyway, so for me it's a no brainer.

The people on this forum know that 2SO is a waste of money and not needed...
If the vehicle manufacturers say do not use 2SO
If the petrol companies say do not use 2SO
If the people who make 2SO say don't use 2SO
Why on earth would you want to add an oil for your 2 stroke weed eater into your modern common rail 4 stroke diesel engine?

I think a person with 2SO leanings would not be foolish enough to try ply his snake oil deviance here.
There is an app called Pit Stop that is a good guide to Diesel prices in your area.

Newly re-opened Caltex near me has 50ppm for R14:98.
Then there's a Caltex Rabie at 15:14 & a Total near here at the same.
10ppm at a Sasol in Northwold is around R15:30.

In Pretoria East I couldn't find a place selling for less than R16:00.
One BP (who are very expensive) was R16:69...
