If a CAT/DPF catches all the bad gunk - what happens when you eventually throw the CAT/DPF/Entire Vehicle away...?

I understand that while driving most of the bad gunk gets, in theory, burnt into lress harmful gunk, alledgedly... but a fully clogged CAT or DPF must still contain bad gunk.
Not as much as when you throw a Tesla away & those Lithium batteries start bleaching into the soil, but still, some...

Exactly the same happens.
Once emission systems are blocked and not maintained you have technically a poor performing non emission control vehicle.
So too with lithium batteries. Once kaput they get dumped where they think no one will find them. So air pollution becomes soil pollution. Just like we have no idea what nuclear waste is doing to our soils.

the carbon particles are not airborne - Carbon is good in the ground, and acts as a filter and holds moisture...

A big engined 4x4 with functioning emissions control is far cleaner than even a hybrid without. It's also interesting to note that shitty little eco boxes with small engines and a 5 year life span have a far bigger carbon footprint over it's manufacture and usable life is no better than a heavy 4x4 with a 25 year realistic usable life span.

Don't you think we should all be trying to reduce our pollutive habits while maintaining our lifestyle?

Very valid view Apoc.

Motor manufacturers bamboozle Mr Joe Average with all the high tech what's happening now stuff and he just wants the latest toy to brag with. But you have given a much bigger picture.

Only way to change our lifestyles with our current toys will be to use them less. Much less. And that wont be fun.

Meanwhile the power stations belch out what will be the next 20 years at least here in SA.

I am going to plant another tree.......

Nope, just own and run them longer, dont replace for 10 years minimum. That way your individual carbon footprint is way lower than the guy who buys a new cleaner tech vehicle every 3 to 5 years.

Absolutely. And that is my plan. It is the last 4x4 I will probably own.
Until they stop supplying diesel that is.

I agree.
A Pajero would be the last 4x4 I'd own too. ..
