Cleaning a fuel tank?

#1

Post by Shane »

Mate of mine bought an old BMW that's been standing for 17 years...

He's stripped the fuel tank and is trying to clean it.

It's a mission!

Not only rust but a greasy gunk that has developed over the years.

Are there any preferred methods/solutions to doing this?

I would think there must be a type of acid to remove the rust. Currently he's using a degreaser and "vibrator" with steel balls.

Any advice would help.

I wondered how long it would take before someone posted a chirp

He actually used one of those vibrators you use when you pour concrete....

Worked quite well but not 100% effective.
