Won't 8mm steel plate protect the body? Those in my pics look like 3mm or so.
Do you want body armour or rockslider?

Those in your first photo are going to seriously damage your vehicle when you hit a rock

8mm steel plate is also incredibly heavy...

Having said that, I'm also going to build - well, have built - some extra underbody protection for my 4x4.
They stupidly placed the air reservoir tank drain valve at the lowest point on my vehicle, and I keep damaging my exhaust.
So I'm also in the market for some thick armor plate protection for those vulnerable bits.

In my case, I can directly bolt it on to the chassis I think, but I would definitely need to do so in a manner that accompanies chassis flex.

Good luck Chris! Hope you post the results of your creation here.

OK pooples, I will rethink the matter and design rock sliders not body protectors.
Looks like the 'Mericans don't know their shit.

Bolt it to the chassis. It’s the correct way.

Chirs,

I would say 8mm is overkill.

On Softroadertjie I had stofpad sliders which were 3mm IIRC, and I tested them pretty well.
Will have to figure out how to post pics.

Anyway, my mate had 6mm home made sliders which took much more of a beating than mine on the same trips.

The stofpad sliders had a bracket that went around the ladder frame, then you don't have to drill any holes.
It was also a bit away from the body.

My sliders just rectangular profile tube steel
(with 2 shrink-tubes inset for jacking) .
bolted to main chassis lengths.

Little to make actually.

There is a big difference in structural rigidity between a flat plate and a channel or tube. For a tube, 3mm is sufficient but for a flat plate 8mm won’t be.

I agree. The Wrangler have nice places to bolt it to.

But look at this guy's sliders. It looks more like protection plates?

Chris, the bottom of your Jeep body will probably sit around 600/700mm above the ground.
Depending on lift.
Your plate underneath the gearbox will be much lower, around 360mm IIRC, in most circumstances you will hit that plate before you hit a rock.

In other words you will really have to work hard to need rock sliders. :D

Who are these idiots? Gunhog has Metalcloak body armour, not sliders. They are 2 different things.
