Not the same engine by a long shot. The competition engines are hand built, blueprinted and I am sure critical parts are specially forged and machined to much better standards than the ones in mass-produced versions in the customer cars

Thys every word you say is true. Think of it the TDV6 can be made reliable in Dakar guise.
I agree with you Grips - but the same can be said of ANY engine. Or any THING, for that matter. I recall a TV ad that I saw the other day of a lightbulb in a fire station somewhere in the States that have been on for something like 120 years.
I would like to see what changes they have made to the crank of that Dakar TDV6.
