So over the last year we have been planning a trip to go and tour Botswana. Me and Swambo in a V9X and a friend, his family, with his.....needs a bakkie....

So yesterday he came very chuaffed with himself he bought a Ranger 2x4 DC. He is adamant that he will be able to drive the whole Botswana without being stuck.

I wish some people would just listen. We did it in 2000 and got stuck even with 4x4.

Seems like he will be needing some recovery gear...

Make sure he has proper recovery points and his own correctly rated recovery gear before you leave. You don't want to be dodging bits you pull off his bakkie during recoveries.

Where would you buy those rated recovery points?

The recovery point I fitted to the rear of the Disco came with a data test sheet for the batch where it was tested to 16 ton.

Is that 16 ton Safe Working Load or it’s breaking point?

It deformed but hadn't failed. Hopefully it'll be enough to get me out of trouble when stuck.

Good luck with your trip. Take extra snatch ropes and straps.

Had a guy at work with the same argument to go to Moz via Kosi Baai, when he came back he changed his 4x2 for a 4x4 Ranger.
