A "little" how to thread on how to replace the intake manifold and rocker cover gaskets on the RangeRover 4,6 V8.

Firstly you need to depressurise the fuel system, I did this by removing the fuel filter and replacing it with a new one.
Then drain the coolent, at the bottom of the radiator there is a drain plug, just remove and drain.

Next thing to do is remove the alternator.
Just remove 2 bolts and wiring at the back:
Next to remove is the airfilter's "plumbing" and then the throttle cable and the 2 electrical plugs on the plenum chamber
Then remove the 6 bolts that holds the plenum in place and remove
Make sure you remove all the rocker cover breather pipes and the coolant temperature and temperature gauge sensors.
Disconnect the 8 injector multiplugs (mark their positions if you think you might mix them up) and the fuel temperature sensor multiplug on the passenger side of the fuel rail.
Disconnect the fuel feed hose and return hose from the pressure regulator pipe
Remove the 6 nuts securing fuel rail and ignition coilbracket to the inlet manifold then lift the fuel rail slightly for access and release the ignitioncoil bracket from inlet manifold studs and place it aside to the rear.
Disconnect all coolant hoses from the inlet manifold and remove the bolts securing the harnesses to the left and right of the inlet

Then remove the 12 bolts securing the inlet manifold to the cylinder heads
With the bolts removed I could not remove the inlet as the Rocker cover gaskets where protruding on the sides and keeping the inlet in place so I loosened the Rocker Cover bolts and I was then able to remove the inlet manifold.
I then removed the Rocker Covers completely as I did plan from the start to replace their gaskets but I left the Valley gasket in place for now to prevent any grit or anything else falling inside the "engine".
I then cleaned the Rocker Covers, resprayed them plain black and fitted the new gaskets
And then fitted them back to the engine without tightening them fully so I can move them around when fitting the inlet manifold.

I then removed the inlet manifold gasket, also know as the valley gasket, and the back and front oil seals
Fitted the new oil seals and then the new inlet manifold gasket
I then fitted the inlet back on again, tightening the bolts in reverese of removal and tightened up the rocket cover bolts
Then assemble everything back together in reverse order.

All done
I then drained the oil and replaced the oil filter and replaced airfilters etc doing a full service.

I use RTV gasket sealer on the intake gaskets. Small bead around each intake and water ports on both sides of the gasket. Never ever had any form of intake gasket leak.
