So how long do you estimate a alternator should last?

I just removed this one from the RR.

Manufacture date was week 25 of 1995.

That's a full 23years!!!

It was making fireworks, complete and utterly fffff... broken.
When removed you can turn it by hand a few times and then it locks, lots of grinding noises and bits of metal falling out

I have never had to replace an alternator due to the actual alternator failing. I have replaced the one in my mother's Frontier with a rebuilt unit, due to the vacuum pump, attached to the back, packing up. Just another reason to hate diesel engines
I refuse to be POLITICALLY CORRECT to impress others - Deal with it
FLEX is UNDERRATED

Alternators can last forever. Had a Mazda 2.2 pickup that did 1 million km's. Some way around 500k km did replace bearings and brushes and then again just past
900k km.
Cannot remember touching a modern alternator before 300k km

Grips, Chris’s reference point is vehicles manufactured in Solihull. Not Japan [emoji51].

Give him a break 🤭
