Clutch Questions

Fearless (3.0D-4D Fortuner 4x4) needs another new clutch again.
Fearless eats clutches like the ANC eats public funds.
My old KB280DT also needs a clutch.
Where to buy?
Best Brand (Exedy, LUK, Sachs).
For Fearless, is it worthwhile going for a Heavy Duty clutch?

You should buy an auto, cheaper on clutches

Sachs. And if you cant find a Sachs, buy n Sachs! No need for heavy duty as you haven’t modified Fearless in performance. Valeo’s clutches also worth having.
If you do want to put heavy duty clutches. Have only heard good things about Terrain Taimer (Anthony or Tinus is your guy).
Stay CLEAR of LUK. Load of rubbish, hard and never lasts (personal opinion after putting it in two vehicles)

Might be true, I was going to repair my tyre and (in typical dutch fashion) just replaced it because it was less of a hassle...

Same Aisin 6 speed Auto as in the Gen 6 & Gen 7 D-Max.
Same box used to be on the Pajero Sport before they went 8 speed...

Only the later Fortuners. Early ones had a 4 speed like Pajero Sport 2009 to 2013.
What is a clutch BTW?

I have a friend with a D4D (don't we all have one, a friend with a D4D

)
The clutch is apparently a known weak point on the D4D (one of few)
As a reference, to see if your situation is 'normal' or not:
He is on 410,000kms and getting his third clutch as we speak.
All were Toyota original clutches.
He tours at least once a year on long dirt roads with camping trailer, and it is also a daily driver.

I gave up with Toyota clutches when they had to be replaced every 30,000km and went to CBS Krugersdorp and got a heavy duty clutch.
It's now 40,000km old and still going strong and was cheaper than a toyota genuine part at R17,500

Alex, tell your friend I'm on 153 000km and about to fit my 3rd clutch...
He needs to lift his game.

The next was also done at CBS Krugersdorp...

Pity the TCM is so shyte. Aisin is good. Toyota's shift control is terrible.

I got me some prices:
Toyota OEM Clutch- R8 200.00 including a seal you don't need
Terrain Tamer Standard - R19 400.00
Terrain Tamer H/Duty - R26 700.00
For the price of the Terrain Tamer HD I can buy 3 Toyota OEM Clutches & still go out for drinks with the change.
I'll EDIT This post with more prices as they come in,
