Still waiting for a repair Quote.
Isuzu Drivetrain Truck Transmission Specialists is a little slack.

But I got a Quote on a new Transmission in the meantime.
Guess Paul & Johannes, take a guess...

That’s only R4.60/km, if it lasts another 400kkm.

That is a total rip-off Manny.
A friend of mine had work done on his Isuzu Bakkie a while ago. He was very happy with the work done and it didn't cost him his pension. I'll chat to him and let you know who he used for the repair.

The Gearbox Company in Strydom Park
are inclined though not advertised Land Rover specialists ... (!)
... but Im not sure if exclusively so ,
I recently found I had v noisy gearbox/transmission
and Took 130 to them and they initially suspected transmission box as source and informally indicated max 25000 as total refurb of the box.... we subsequently found this was not warranted .
I beleive they know their stuff ... orig Sean Riley ( no longer w us ...) and Carlos etc but they are specialists.
Try sounding them out ... initial assessment ?
... maybe they know/do Yank & Jap Crap etc ?
... Famous Fiver VoorLoper ...
... Veni Vidi Vici ...

Thanks, I used RDG before when they were just the one branch, wasn't impressed with them.
But that was a dozen years ago.
There are many of them ~ like Gearbox Doctor.
I'll have to give this some thought...

Here, from a previous Thread viewtopic.php?f=19&t=627&p=12658#p12658 is my experience with Rex Diff & Gearbox
This relates to my experiences with RDG relating to my Colt 2800D bakkie...

In 2011 I had 140 000km service done... then the Diff issues started...

At 142 800km the diff went, I took it to Rex Diff & Gearbox (RDG) in Boksburg - their Customer Service was terrible.
They never, ever, called to give feedback. They never returned calls. In fact the lady even tried to say she didn't have my number!?!.
Yet you give your details on Checking In AND MY NUMBER IS BRANDED ON THE SIDES & BACK OF THE VEHICLE!!!
RDG charged R5 560.00 & fitted, allegedly, a new Diff & Side shafts bearings- but I doubt so much was done.

Their Invoice shows;
Supply Reconditioned Colt Differential & replace Side Shaft Bearings.

A few weeks later there was a noise from the diff, I booked it in &, given their crap service, called & confirmed the day before.
I then sent the driver to RDG & called to tell them he was on his way.
I called the driver 2 hours later & asked if he was done - he said he had be waiting for 2 hours.
I called the useless bitch, chewed her fat ass off & told her I'll start billing for down time!!!
They then gave him address miles away, he drove there & someone did some work on the vehicle - I have no idea what was done!?!

I vowed never to use RDG again!

Then, in August 2015, at 218 000km (76 000km & 4 years after RDG did the diff), it packed up again! :oops: :o

Not wanting to subject myself to RDG's crap work, crap service & distance, I decided to go to Gearmax

I've always heard the Centurion Gearbox and Diff do a fairly good job. Just stay away from those crooks in Southern JHB, Delports or something.

Just to get back to the MT fluid. GL4 does not contain sulphur and phosphorus and it therefore better for manual gearboxes with syncomesh. GL5 contains sulphur and phosphorus and stinks when you open it and this is used for diffs etc. If i am not mistaken most of the synthetic oils dont use sulphur and phosphorus anymore so it does not stink and does not matter anyway but stil try and follow oem req. Liqui moly you get n 75w90 in both gl4 and gl5. Castol syntrans 75w90 is Gl4 and i have used it in my bakkies instead of fuchs and is just as good. I have also used liqui moli but it is very costly.
Manny just check if the 85w90 oil you put in is GL4 otherwise you know where the problem lies.

Thanks Ernie.
It is definately a lot better with the new oil.
I'll Check the container and post the full spec here.

I'd like to, in time, put the Fuchs 75W90 or even a thicker oil in.
Something like the oil below....

I got a price on a new box ~ R87000.
I then asked for a quote on a repair, but Isuzu Transmission Services wants me to;
* Take the box out.
* Take it to them.
* Theyll then split it, take it apart and then quote.

I'm willing to bed that, if you don't accept the Quote, they are not putting it back together again.

So I'm going to, eventually, try source a used box....
