That clutch is badly burnt, I think what saved you is you had the failure and then had to drive 100km, so who is to say where it burnt blue
before failing or after.
This is, in my view, what swayed them in your favour.

I was at Toyota Lanseria today and discussed your case with them - they said it was unlikely they'd cover a wear part under warranty.

Mine occured at 61000km and they would not honour it.
But, to be fair, I remember where I burnt my clutch reversing the trailer with faulty overrun brakes.
My front yard smelt like burnt clutch for an hour....

Couldn't have asked for a better outcome...

Clearly this isn't the only case they had if they did this under warranty. Isuzu replaced the release bearing on my KB under warranty on 91'000km as they had a Service Bulleting on it. Might be the same case here.

Either or a very good outcome. But might not be the worst idea to set a few hundred bucks aside each month for the Heavy Duty one (hopefully after 71,000km)

I think the driving for a while with it definitely played a part.

Something must have been wrong beforehand. For example when reversing out of my garage there was a slight shudder.

So it might have had a scar already, then with the added weight of the caravan it just started slipping and once it started it was doomed.

Just glad it got sorted.

Just an update, comparing it to the old clutch, there was definitely something not right with the old clutch. When reversing out of the garage there was a slight shudder. Nothing major, but comparing it to the new clutch something was brewing in there.

Quick question, the inner disc, does it look the same on both sides?

If you are referring to the clutch plate, most if not all of them aren't symmetrical. The splined centerpiece is offset and can only be fitted one way.
