The Midas near me is useless and the stuff they sell is absolute crap.
I needed shocks for one of my bakkies once and all they had was Midas Titan, some crap house brand

Sorry Many only saw this thread now. By the look of it Fearless has a Bosch starter. First I am surprised that it does not use a reduction starter like most other Toyota engines.
In the end it would be better to fit a reduction starter. The Prado`s with the 3.0L D4D engine uses them and most other D4D applications.
Maybe Toyota see a Fortuner as a light duty vehicle

Yes, it's a Bosch starter.
It actually has a planetary gear that acts as a sort of reduction ratio, but it's not a reduction gear as in the reduction starter.

The Toyota parts arrived this morning.
An impressive 4 working hour turn around.
Less impressive was the fact that the parts were for the Denso starter (three different starters are used on the D-4D, depending on application).

So I popped over to Mintrams and ordered there.
Bosch parts.

At Toyota they cant even greet you without a VIN number.
Going there without a VIN is like going to Woolies without a shopping bag...

New 'Brush Holder' & a new 'Solenoid' - R1 750.00 fitted.
Starts perfectly, time after time.

Correct Prof.
Cheap & with genuine Bosch parts.
For R2 100.00 more (R3 800) I could have got a whole new Bosch starter.
But given that my fuel bill is R2 100/m more than it was a few months ago - that wasn't an option.
