Tire size question
Tomorrow I will buy 4 x 285/70/17 for the GX
Standard tires are 285/65/17.
Now in the event that I should have to use the spare, what could go wrong?

Not much, unless you run it for long distances on a locked axle on road surfaces that do not allow some wheel slip. (tarmac)

I’m running the exact same combo, 285 is a female dog to fit in the spare wheel well!
I also pack a tyre repair kit should I need to do long distances, just in case

It’s not a huge percentage difference in OD. Just try not to run in 4WD (not sure if 2wd is selectable on Cruiser?). If so, try not to run odd sizes on the same axle. You could also just let some air out of the bigger tyres to compensate

Won't your diff work overtime to compensate for the difference in diameter?

30mm difference in diameter. Mike is there no way you can fit 285/70 as a spare? Is the 200 Cruiser not AWD?
I have this thing, but it is only me, all tyres need to match. I buy 5 tyres and 5 rims every time I buy a set of rims.

The Cruiser is indeed AWD.
Obviously I would not want to have an odd size, but if I am desperate and stick to a slow enough speed, I shouldn't do to much damage right, if any?

There will be no damage as long as the diffs are not locked - especially on gravel roads. The rolling difference is 347 mm per KILOMETER if I read Neil's table correctly

Mike it all depends on what center diff (That is the one for the AWD function in the t-case) the Cruiser have. If it have one acting like an LSD when not locked you can ruin the plates in the center diff.
I agree you might get away with short distances.

I am starting to doubt this whole exercise, but I will go ahead and buy the 4 tires. Hopefully have enough money saved up in the near future to get a 5th as well

Then I wouldn’t recommend having 2 different sized tyres on the same axle. A diff is a precision piece of kit & fixing them is always pricey.Mike Nel wrote:The Cruiser is indeed AWD.
Not worth it in my opinion.
