Great video. I've fallen out of love with 4x4 24/7, but thiswas reasonably well done.

Bottom line (for those too lazy to watch the video):

The 2.0 BiT Ranger is not great at towing, especially heavier loads.
That 2.0 BiT motor is too pesky and with 10 speeds the gearbox cant decide which gear to use.
Anything more than 5 or 6 speeds is a waste of cogs...

Dual Cab Utes (Double Cab Bakkies to you lot) are great @ towing Off Road Trailers, but once the load exceeds 2.0 tons they start to struggle.

You need stiffer suspension to tow.

The Land Cruiser 200 is the Tow King of the World!!

The Nissan Y62/Patrol/Armada is pretty damn good too.

The Ram 1500 is great, but only for straight line tar road towing & it sucks juice like the US President sucks at leadership. (it's American after all)...

Thanks Mike after owning quite a few V8 ''s and other large capacity engines this confirms my experience.

When it comes to heavy towing there is no substitute for cubic inches

Just my observations.
I feel that in this weight division, the smaller cc's are just out gunned. Yes the bigger cc engines are heavier on fuel, but I believe they are a lot less stressed doing the same job.

So I can only speak for my car. The smaller cc's will probably be lighter on fuel, but on a 500kkm demand on the vehicle, the bigger cc will def have less cost per km, over the long run.

I have to say that they (the Ausies) really like to “tune” everything. Every single Ausie 4x4 video I watch, they give the engine a “tune”, within limits off course and they immediately upgrade the clutch.

Is the “tune” really needed for heavy towing on the V8??

Don`t think so. :D

I did a bit of heavy towing last weekend , with the D3 . I found it very capable . Yes , it is a V8. Its not a bakkie , but it really impressed me

Johannes ja dit gaan nie net oor n V8 nie , gaan oor die overall gewig van die voertuig ook.

I have towed some heavy loads.
The V8 American Ranger I built a few years ago with its 600nm was the best I have owned.
Once had the privilege to drive a friends imported American F250. That beast had a towing capacity of over 6T. Cannot think of anything that can match an American Full size Pickup.

First pic 3T lathe that I bought from a friend in Upington.

Dis darem waar. Ek het so tussen 5 en 5.5km/l op die ooppad gekry teen 120km/h.
Sleep so 4 to 4.5
