Hi guys, any help on my Hilux GD-6 fuel injectors. I have changed twice this year and they keep on failing after some months. What could be the cause of them having a short life-span. I've tried checking the cause with no success, please help :(

This is the first I hear of GD-6 Injector problems, I would start using a different filling station. Never use depot diesel.

Is the vehicle chipped?

Mileage at time if 1st and 2nd failures?
Diesel used?
Where do you usually fill up?
Regular Services?
Is the Diesel filter being replaced regularly?

Is it chipped or software tuned?

Could you take a photo of the dash so I can see what the mileage is?

Twice in 500,000km or twice in 20,000km? Or somewhere in between?

I had a mate with Leukemia who slipped into a coma.
He was easier to get answers out of than the OP. :D

But I think we've cracked this case:
* Chip
* Diesel Filters not replaced often enough
* Probably no Raecor or UDF back up filter.
* Possible 'Plaas Diesel'... but the OP lives in JHB, so maybe not.

Chip is a possibility. Me think bad diesel is the biggest culprit.

I know a few youngsters with GD6 2.8 Hiluxes that makes silly power from chips and maps. None have lost injectors to date.

A possibility.. LOL!!!

I suggest removing the chip, and checking if the problem persists

Injectors are closely matched to the year,
model etc of the engine and are even individually coded and EMU must be accordingly and appropriately programmed...
If engine performance is manipulated
via chip and mapping procedures it seems there the injector performance is conceivably also susceptible to adverse effects, esp if not carefully done ?
The conductor (like a EMU !) of an orchestra needs full knowledge of his musicians and their instruments at his command to make a good rendition.

Some years ago LandyWorx took a peek into
my TD5 engine and found (and replaced!) a single alien 'black' injector while others were all 'green' ...
Changed and improved my engine performance immeasurably thereafter !

Gentlemen, I did't even read the thread.

This is the age old debate.

When you buy a new car, you make some assumptions.
1. The dealer is there to look after you.
Wrong. He and head office is there to make money. The approach is to have all sorts of mechanisms to relieve you off it.
2. The manufacturer will fit the best filter for the application.
Wrong. The manufacturer will fit the cheapest solution to get the car out of the warranty.
3. The diesel filters are sufficient to protect the injectors from grit.
Wrong. The injector tips have a 2micron tolerance. The filters have a 10micron tolerance, at best.

So gents, go do your homework. Make sure you can understand the problem.
PS. And this is not a Toyota problem. It is an industry problem.

As Bertie Riechert, who does tuning, once said "On a turbo diesel all a chip can do is add fuel & increase boost"...

... top end 4*4s are presumably designed
and set to run through the full spectrum of
conditions arctic-sahara, Peru-Karroo etc etc
... so I can see some scope to reset them
to where theyll actually spend their time;
... but this surely needs be only done wrt manufacturers guidance etc...

Solve all your diesel engine problems chop chop. Buy a petrol driven vehicle.
