Do you consider guys who are willing to damage their vehicles when off road, heroes?

Andrew, Neil has become a Metroman that relies on electronic nannies to get to the mall parking lot His daughter does his off road driving, while he wipes the dust off the dash flicking the feathers at a very high velocity .....

Andrew to answer your question, I do not see them as heroes. We have a name for them. Opfokkers.
Opfokkers is those that have no clue about skills and picking the right lines for obstacles their only skill is 7000 rpm
Opfokkers will tackle a dune knowing he will never make it to the top. However he will try and try till forever. Taking longer runs adding more momentum and gaining nothing.
Opfokkers are those that crash through obstacles.
Then the other side of the coin
I think the type and grade of 4x4`ing have a lot to do with it.
If you have a 4x4 special build for extreme events like Carnage Canyon you can expect damage. But most of the guys doing Carnage are pro`s and take it slow with the aim of to conquer not to destroy.
Playing hard. I know lots of guys that play hard but there is a difference in playing hard over opfok.
But the Yank v8`s does not take prisoners too much right foot and too much grip always end in a disaster.
Nothing more nice to look at as a real pro taking a 4x4 through and obstacle using skills.
You need to see Flipside in his Jimny going where others will struggle with 35`s , that is what I call skills.

This is where the correct line and decent articulation turns off-road driving into an art !!!!

Roll overs in 4x4`s. Yes that happen. Sometimes more easily than expected. I have never witnessed any 4x4 rolled on purpose. Some pushing the limits, it will happen sooner or later. Maybe we are all lucky. I have some real close calls that I can remember. It sometimes happens at moments less expected.
Then you will never damage a 4x4 when parked in a garage. Think all of us have added some battle scars to our 4x4`s one stage or another.

Grips said it nicely.
There is a massive difference between an unforeseen accident, mild carelessness, and blatant disregard for man and machine.
I had the pleasure of lightly rolling my Unimog this year in June - the first time I've managed to damage it.
Those of you that have driven with me, know that I'm not afraid to take on crazy obstacles, mostly because I'm fortunate to own a very tough machine that is very difficult to damage. I've worked my way up to it over various 4x4s, and I know what it can do.
Yet, a simple "driving around to the next obstacle", combined with the persistent problems I had on that day with my diesel feed to the engine - causing it to cut out (and lose power steering) - with a badly placed rock on the right, and unexpected sinking in to soft sand on the left, ended up with my vehicle on its side.
I felt pretty stupid about that, and the panelbeater bill wasn't cheap!
That incident was somewhere between "Unforeseen accident" and "Careless" on the spectrum.
But on so many trips, there are always the "opfokkers" that Grips is talking about.
I think that anybody has the right to treat their property as they wish, as long as they don't complain about the consequences.
Some people are just *asking* for trouble or breakage, though.
And anybody that endangers others through wilful stupidity or carelessness immediately loses my respect.
Usually, alcohol is involved, and I immediately avoid anybody on a trail that is clearly drunk.
In my opinion, there are no heroes or bad guys when you're enjoying a hobby though - it is what it is, as long as you don't negatively impact others.

Lekker wins gemaak.
Daar is n deel wat mense soms nie verstaan. Spectator value. Moet dit nooit onderskat.
4x4 is lekker fun en games. En dan skielik is jou gain myle meer as jou kostes. Dan speel mens lekker...
By the way: ons is besig met demolition derby reel. Vir opfokkers. Last man standing
Working on it.....
