I had an interesting chat with a client today, he had catastrophic injector failure on his Hilux on around 150k km, that he can’t understand because he uses injector additives and changes filters regularly etc.Rabbiddog wrote:Go look on another forum, the gurus have blamed every thing and anything.
LR made a statement after looking at the problem, but apparently metallurgists, engineers and the guys that fix them don't know squat.
I still stick to the it is most likely due to lack of maintenance and or additives. There was a poll and most of the guys that had failures either maintained their own cars, or used additives![]()
Go figure
Lets blame sun spots
We run around 60 hilux bakkies with nothing but Services , a lot of them reaches 400k km plus before we sell with no engine problems.
Begs the question about additives/ wrong oils? Bad servicing? Servicing at the wrong intervals?
Does some people just have bad luck?

So 35% (1 in 3) of failures were LR serviced.Rabbiddog wrote:
If you look at the number broken cranks with people doing DIY servicing, and using additives, and bad service intervals, it is over 65% the last time I bothered to analyze the data available on line. That's why LR put mileage and age limits for assisted repairs.

That's on the 4x4comm poll thread only, with guys joining to to find out where to get a rebuild.
Peter posted a while ago that of the 700+ TDV6's he has on his books less than 2% has failures, Nekkies in CT hadn't had one at that point tn time.
Took my D3 in for an oil leak last week, 3 v8's opened up, and no TDV6's

Speed of Dakar compared to speed of the D3/d4 , so RPM should be much higher !!Oppies3800 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 18, 2018 5:47 pmWeight of a Dakar Peugeot?grips wrote:The very same TDV6 wins Dakars in the Peugeot's makes one wonder.
