Presies. Tog word daar soms hammers, rock chisels ens ens aanbeveel.

Ek gebruik wel n 10 pond hammer as ek roete bou. Net n hammer, niks anders.

In the first video the guy hanging out the window (probably because windscreen is dirty) smacks a rock with the rock slider harder than I could with a hammer .
That Safari has serious lift yet the rock slider still took a hard blow - most guys wouldn't get over there.

Which raises a point - an 2 obstacle in a Unimog would be a 5 to a Yaris - it's relative.
What is a 4 to that Safari would be a 5 to Fearless as I only have a 38mm lift...
if that Safari had 100mm less lift it also would have struggled.

The 2nd video I don't understand.

The 3rd video shows a bunch of clueless clots giving 4x4'ing a bad name:
* Guys standing too close to vehicle.
* No underbody protection.
* Exhaust protruding where it is most likely to get damaged.
* Guy in flip flops bouncing on the back bumper.
* Neither of the pedestrians showing a line
* Etc... Etc.]
I don't 4x4 with guys like that.
Also looks like they were on the sauce.
But the pajama shorts were sexy....
"No one ever got stuck - in mid air!"

Personally I find the weather & the time of year makes the biggest changes to a route.
Tierkloof at 3P has a very steep loose stoney hill with a massive rock halfway down.
When I did it, the recent rains had made it less loose & the big rock had dislodged & rolled away.
So an obstacle that modded Jeeps usually struggle with was a breeze.
When we did it (4x4AG trip) 2 vehicles got stuck there, we had to jack them up to get them over it. The owners said they had been trying to remove that rock. Maybe the owners removed it.

Besides packing a rock or two, I would say it should be an absolute NO. If you start digging rocks out, then you may be able to make it easier on the day, but not only are you changing the nature of the obstacle, but what happens after the next big rain, you have now created an erosion point, and you will end up with an obstacle that may become impassable. Then some poor sod has to cart in soil, rocks and cement to make the section of the trail usable again.

Personally, I do not regard a route that has been "built" using earth moving equipment as an off-road trail.

Reenen's example is a real trail - it was established by driving up the mountain, picking a drivable route and with minor adjustments to the natural lay of the land, making it passable. Any "route" that was created by digger loaders or other earth moving equipment is a road - sometimes not an easy road to travel by, but still a road.

I agree with Reenen and others - permanent alterations of a trail to suit your individual vehicle or group, is not acceptable. There are always alternatives if a specific obstacle is beyond your own or your vehicle's capability, even if it means reversing halfway down the mountain to a point where you can turn around.
I refuse to be POLITICALLY CORRECT to impress others - Deal with it
FLEX is UNDERRATED

Entrance requirements:
You must 4x4 with one hand
You must try and break your car
You must have an elbow out of the window when doing doughnuts
You must drink when 4x4ing
Don't vat kak from no body
If you cannot make an obstacle the first time... Beat it into submission with your rocksliders...
