Do you consider guys who are willing to damage their vehicles when off road, heroes?

As hy breek, maak ek hom reg.

Selfs my speelgoed is spotless en skraapvry.

My ryding, my skade... as ek eendag skade kry...

Interesting thread .

I think the whole thing comes down to each persons perspective.

I don’t like the word ‘momentum’. That’s something Thys would use. I prefer the term ‘velocity’. Much better.

Some will enter obstacles with a very high probability of damage, others won’t. But I find that the most hesitant get into trouble first because they lack confidence & commitment.

One man’s grade 5 is another man’s grade 2.

Dink julle dis "skill" of "guts" (ander mense noem "guts" iets anders)

The most I have learned about making use of available traction, picking lines and using using your throttle for maximum effect is on a trials bike. The interesting thing is all of those 2 wheel skills are just as applicable to off road on 4 wheels.
The throttle is just one of many different tools available to the driver. Unfortunately it is one of the most difficult to master but the one most widely used.

I have no issues with guys using momentum when applicable but generally walk away when someone starts using the "big hammer" approach to beat an obstacle into submission.

   It was much harder to find comparable vids on youtube than what I thought.. :D

But I think this will demonstrate what I mean.. Check out the little red Jeep in the second vid... Someone explained to that guy how his LSdiff works, but he took it too literal.. :P

Go tickle yourself with a feather.

There is a huge difference between velocity (speed) and momentum (mass multiplied by velocity in a specific direction)

To achieve the same momentum a feather will need much more speed than a rock of the same size.

If you do not understand this concept and how it affects off-road driving, you should stick to cleaning shelves ...................................
