We do an annual trip, sometimes even twice a year into the Nam Dunes
Next year we will do the Richtersveld organized by this glorious Forum
I’ve had one instance where I wished I had a Sat Phone. My daughter was about 6months old and suddenly got very sick whilst I was in the Namibia
Now. At that time I only wanted to be informed as to what was happening or to even just talk to her. Luckily she got sorted after many tests. That trip I said I want a Sat Phone
So a buddy and I invested in one last week.
I feel a bit more relaxed knowing that I should be able to get hold of someone should the crap hit the fan

Now you just need to ensure you and the buddy do not plan trips at the same time

I have a Sat phone for many years now. Even in the NC still lots of places with no network cover. When ever I go on a trip I take it along. Never had any emergency to use it so far. With me and Swambo having parents deep in their eighties it is reassuring that in case of an emergency they can reach us.
You will never find me without Stroh or a 4x4
