Mate of mine bought an old BMW that's been standing for 17 years...
He's stripped the fuel tank and is trying to clean it.
It's a mission!
Not only rust but a greasy gunk that has developed over the years.
Are there any preferred methods/solutions to doing this?
I would think there must be a type of acid to remove the rust. Currently he's using a degreaser and "vibrator" with steel balls.
Any advice would help.

He actually used one of those vibrators you use when you pour concrete....
Worked quite well but not 100% effective.
